Which holes are from your last series?

After each series you take a photo of your target. We're building an app that spots the new holes and keeps your score per series, even when the target already has holes in it. In the pilot we'll test whether that works on your targets.

We asked 56 shooters

More than half don't keep track of their scores. Those who do bring their target back, look for the new holes, count their points and patch them. From your position you can't see much at a distance.

  • After ten shots you no longer know which holes are new.
  • At 25 metres you bring your target in to count and patch it.
  • After every series you count the points yourself, hole by hole.
  • Sometimes you count your neighbour's holes as well.

How it's going to work

  1. A photo after your series

With your phone, of the target you already use. You don't need any extra device on the range.

  2. Only the new holes

The app will compare your photo with the previous one and count only what's new. No more patching.

  3. Your series saved

For each session you'll see your score and grouping, and after a few weeks how you're progressing.

We're building this now. In the pilot we'll test how well it works on real targets, at different ranges and in different light.

Nobody needs to know that you shoot

We talked to 8 shooters. Those who had doubts mostly mentioned privacy. Your employer or outsiders don't need to know that you shoot, and nobody wants a profile that shows which firearms they own. This is how we are building it:

  • Everything will be private by default. You share only what you choose, with whom you choose.
  • You will be able to use an alias.
  • Entering firearm details will be optional, and they will never appear in anything you share.

Who we are

TracShot is a project by students at AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts Antwerp. We started by talking to shooters and running a survey, and only then began to build.

Test the prototype at your own range

We're looking for shooters who will use it for a few weeks during their normal training, and clubs that want to set up a pilot. Taking part is free and you're not tied to anything.

Do you coach others or sit on a club board? Tick that in the form and we'll contact you separately.

Investing in TracShot

We plan a free app for shooters with a paid upgrade, plus licences for clubs. We're still testing the price with shooters.

Where we are now

8 interviews and 56 survey responses. We're now testing the image recognition on a dataset of 3,000 target photos.

Frequently asked questions

What's different about TracShot?

We want to recognise new holes on a target that has already been used, and keep track of your series over weeks.

Will it be another subscription?

We don't know yet. The pilot is free, and we'll decide what it costs later together with the testers.

Who can see my results?

Only you, unless you share something yourself. This is how we're building it: private by default, with an alias, and weapon details optional and never shared.

Do I need extra equipment?

No, just your phone and your usual targets.

Can my club take part?

We'd love that. Choose "Club board" when you sign up or mention your club, and we'll get in touch to set up a pilot together.
